Dogs as we all know have amazing scenting prowess.  However do we always let our pet dogs explore their scent world as we should.  Puppies in particular are learning what all these smells are all about, and hence have a need to stay sniffing to work things out.  For us humans who have different sensory priorities,  the long sniff on a walk, in the rain and cold can be quite challenging.  In the above photos, 3 puppies at a foundation puppy class are working out what the novel object is that was placed in the room.  The other photo is of 2 dogs off lead working out the ins and outs of the pile of grass clippings.  We all like to take our dogs out on a walk, on or off lead.  The ” goal” for these walks can be a range of things: Toileting, exercise, fresh air, exploring new places, or even going to the pub!  We do need to look at these outings from the pet dog point of view.  Finding out by scent who and what has just been along the route, is top of their list often, enjoying different scents in different weather conditions, but how often are we all guilty of encouraging them to ” come on”  “lets go” .  So maybe plan a sniffari for your dog the next time you are out, deliberately go to places you know your dog will enjoy sniffing about, even visit a local garden centre or pet shop…. relax…. enjoy it too.

It has been wonderful to be able to set up puppy classes again.  We have got a full class just started and i am taking bookings for the next set and/or a foundation course for very young puppies. So do be in contact soon to get your little pup booked in.

I would like to also offer activity group classes for older pups and young dogs.

I am offering behavioural work both in Essex and Cambridgeshire/Suffolk.  Following the great success of working remotely with cases, with lots of follow up and support, i am continuing to do this format.  However i am now travelling up to Cambridge area about every 5 weeks for practical inperson sessions.  These are arranged in advance, but can be stand alone training sessions as long as i have a slot available on the day.  At the moment i have planned these on a Saturday, this seems to suit most people and fits in with my other committments.  Do send me an email if you are interested.

Before the lockdown in March i had been planning to continue to offer group classes and face to face sessions in the Cambridgeshire area as well. Unfortunately at the present time these are not going ahead.

However i am still able to support you and your furry family member by using a mixture of email, whatsapp, zoom and telephone.  Whether this is for a training struggle or a more complicated behaviour case.  Do get in touch.

As you can understand, i have had to curtail all my classes, activity courses and one 2 one’s unless it is a really urgent case…. then all the government guidelines will be met.

However, lots can be done remotely. I am starting up Skype sessions for advice, and assessment. Whatsapp groups and correspondence by email for current clients where possible.  As soon as possible i will be developing my own online courses….. watch this space.  In the meantime, if you would like where best to access, fun, informative and interesting courses, whether it is for Puppies or adult dogs, let me know and i will signpost you in the right direction.  – just email or phone me on my mobile.
